Relationships, creativity, craft, equipment. In that order. Equipment can be purchased or hired. Craft and skills can be taught and refined. But creativity takes time, it takes passion, courage and resilience. And relationships - our interaction with our clients, that's where the true magic happens. This is where synergy takes place - where the product we create is bigger than our individual efforts and skills. Our goal is to make every production unique and beautiful, to delight our clients, and to move the viewer and evoke emotion. Creating something beautiful takes time and is never easy. But then again, nothing worthwhile ever is.

 

OUR STORY

Founded in 2009 by a mechanical engineer with a creative bent, Helicam Productions was started by Andrew Martens when he started fastening SLR cameras onto radio control helicopters to capture aerial images. Nearly a decade of blood, sweat and tears have resulted in the rough edges being smoothed and the evolution of a startup venture into a sustainable, creative business with clients across Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean. Reaching this stage would have been impossible without the help of many individuals, but none more so than Virginie, Andrew's wife, and Jaco Tredoux. They spearheaded the marketing of the venture - Virginie's focus was the Indian Ocean market whilst Jaco focused on the Southern African region. In an age where drones had not been invented yet, their work ethic and passion for the product put Helicam on the map.
